Designed by British Mid Century supremo Richard Hornby for Fyne Ladye in the early 1960s & sold by luxury distributors Heals in small numbers due to the exacting standards of their construction, this wonderful bureau typifies best-of-British Mid Century design & will add refined Mid Century elegance, stunning colour & excellent quality to any interior. Unlike most 1960s furniture, this bureau is crafted from gorgeous solid Afromosia (African teak) wood, rather than being veneer, & features beautiful sweeping lines & tapering cuboid solid legs. It has beautiful rich ruddy-golden colouring with stunning pinstripe grain & this model is particularly rare & hard to find for having smooth rather than ribbed drawers. A simply stunning & also highly practical bureau, it's an ideal space-saving laptop desk with bundles of storage space. It has a locking dropdown desk with the original key, which creates a large desktop area, a decent sized flat top ideal to display objects, a variety of cubbyholes, two internal drawers & three large dovetail-joined lower drawers. Hornby's bureaus are hard to come by & much sought-after for their beauty, quality & rarity. This stunning piece offers so much practicality & storage in a handsome & eye-catching package. All original & beautifully crafted with wonderful attention to detail, it will be a knockout item in any setting. CONDITION This is in very good condition & has been well looked after. Structurally sound, the lock & key, drawers & pull-down desk all work wonderfully smoothly & as they should & it has only minor cosmetic signs of wear, as you'd expect for a piece of its age. Overall this is a very beautiful & rare solid wood bureau by one of Britain's best Mid Century designers in very good condition & if well looked after it should be just as gorgeous in another 50+ years - please see the photos.
