Here is a very rare 1950s single sized fabric bedspread designed by the Swedish mid-century textile designer Gota Tragardh for Sobo. The name of the fabric is 'Invitation'. It has a wonderful, stylised floral design that is typical of avant-garde mid-century textile design from this period. A variation of this fabric is documented & illustrated on page 126 of the reference book 20th Century Pattern Design by Lesley Jackson, in which she writes: 'Tragardh had her finger on the pulse of international design in the post-war period. The scratchy lines of this pattern suggest dry-point engraving.' The fabric looks to be cotton with a light, barkcloth texture, you can see the texture pf the fabric on the photos. Gota Tragardh (1904-1984) was born in Sweden & graduated from the Stockholm Technical School in 1925. She was creative director for several different textile companies from the mid-1950s & this bedspread is an excellent example of her work. The length is 77 inches & the width is 44 inches excluding the skirt on three sides, which adds an extra 11 inches on each of these sides to the overall dimensions. It is in overall excellent vintage condition, please see all the photos & zoom in for details. The only point to note on very close inspection is a thin line mark measuring approx 8 inches long towards one side. This is not immediately noticeable unless you are looking for it as the pattern is busy. Please note that the shipping cost reflects the weight of this item.
