The mug in the photographs is the mug you will receive. This one is pink & gold!! With a big eye in the middle! Every one of my items is an individual hand made piece of ceramics made in my back garden studio. I make very small batches of pottery at weekends & holidays - about 5 items a week! This one is a special mug with real 22kt gold lustre on the eyelashes! The lustre I use is 'bright gold lustre 10%' (it can be googled) which is the brightest & most expensive (I paid over £300 for a small bottle that I can hold between finger & thumb!). So this is why this mug is costly. The lustre is applied as a brown gooey liquid containing 10% real gold, then the goo burns away in the kiln, leaving the sparkly gold. If The temperature is too high it all burns away - it has to be stopped at exactly 690 degrees! At the moment I have made two gold lustre eye mugs. This one is pink & a curvier shape. This mug was hand made from scratch using earthenware clay. First I slip cast the basic cylinder, then added all of the other parts of the design - they eye socket was built up by hand & shaped around a resin 'cat's eye' or 'dragon's eye' or 'eye of Sauron'! It is a beige & gold eye with a slit in it & I shaped the casing first, then kiln fired it for 24 hours until it was bisque. Next I painted a variety of layers of glaze on to it by hand using a brush, choosing carefully as I combined the colours then added an all over transparent glaze (the base is unglazed white earthenware). It then went back into the kiln for another 24 hours. Then I hand painted gold lustre on to the outline of the eye & the lashes to give them a gorgeous iridescent shine, & returned it to the kiln for a further 8 hours. Then I used art resin to attach the eyeball to the eye socket & waited another 24 hours for it to dry. & doesn't it look fab! Please handle with care - this should not be put in a dishwasher or washing up bowl - if you use it as a mug; rinse with a soft cloth. Better still, keep it as an interesting sculpture.
