These beautiful red pottery SMALL Heart Shaped Mugs were handmade from scratch by Francisca, a Guatemalan artisan. From digging up mud in her town, to the process of converting it to a dust sand texture that will solidify in time, which turns into clay. This unique process is what makes pottery from Chinautla (a very small town in Guatemala) so special - no artificial colors or dyes used. Artisans mold the ceramics manually, dry the pieces for days in sunlight until it's prepared for cooking in an underground kiln. Then they finish them off by using a special stone for smoothing. These pieces are entirely handmade by loving & talented artisans/potters. Imperfections, color/pattern variations are normal & to be expected since each mug is individually made by hand. Each piece is completely unique - that's the beauty of hand made products. IMPORTANT: Red clay products are made using traditional methods & are not chemically sealed. Clay is very porous & will absorb any liquid it comes in contact with. To help prevent this, you can soak each mug in water (hot or cold) for five to ten minutes, ideally until the mug fully absorbs the water for an entire day. Hand wash only, & allow to dry the mug to completely leaving it on a drying rack. Do not store when wet. Each mug has a beautiful flower design on each side of the mug.
