Description
This is a lovely vintage French wicker & rattan picnic or sewing basket, from around the 1950s. Made from woven wicker, it has lovely sturdy bamboo wrapped with wicker handles, & the fastening devices are also made from bamboo with wicker wrapping. The interior is lined with a pretty pink & green chinzy floral cotton fabric & there are two pieces of braiding in a pale lemon fabric which are supposed to hold the lid open although they do not actually do the job, but look pretty! If used as a picnic basket it would not take ceramic ware, but melamine or plasticware as it would not be strong enough for anything too heavy. It would probably have been used as a sewing or craft basket rather than a picnic basket. It could be used for all manner of things, as a display basket, for small bathroom towels, knitting, cross stitch/embroidery projects, etc. MEASUREMENTS It measures 10 1/2 inches (26.5 cm) in height, 14 inches (35.5 cm) in width & is 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) in depth. Weight is 782 grams. CONDITION The basket is in a very good vintage condition with just a little loosening of some of the weave in places. It is still very much intact & very useable. I always endeavor to use recycled material, so please do not be surprised if your order comes in a wine box!
