Description
Antique Sterling Silver Creamer-Jug, 1911, Birmingham, William Aitken. Hallmarks: Lion Passant - (Sterling Silver Standard) Anchor - (Birmingham Assay Office) 'M' - (1911) 'W.A' - (William Aitken, Vyse Street, Birmingham) Weight: 72g Height: 14.0cm Base Width: 4.7cm Antique Sterling Silver Creamer Jug produced by William Aitken. Jug sits atop a square base which likely at some point weighted, though whatever material this was with has been removed/lost, underside is therefore hollow. Handle of jug is extravagantly curved, & fused seamlessly to jug rim & main body. Overall design is more modest than previous Victorian pieces, with little-to-no adornments or engravings. Denting sustained, covered in following section. Silver has a very reflective surface, remarkably so on jug interior, which gleams with incredibly lustre. There only exists very minor scratches which are only visible when closely inspected under direct, harsh light. Considerable denting has occurred along main body of jug [IMAGE 3/4], & though not structurally impeding, is clearly visible due to reflective nature. Underside, where weighted base would once be inserted shows minor abrasions. Hallmarks are located on exterior main body. All hallmarks are legible, though lower region of hallmark punches have been slightly rubbed mildly. Overall well-preserved & attractive.
