VINTAGE BOTANICAL FRAMED ART PRINT Mojave-Aster (Xylorhiza Tortifolia) By Margaret Armstrong, from the book Field Book of Western Wild Flowers, 1915. Margaret Neilson Armstrong was an early 20th-century American designer, illustrator, & author, best known for her Art Nouveau style book covers & most importantly, for the Field Book of Western Wild Flowers, a book that was published after her journey throughout the Western United States & Canada. An avid naturalist, she discovered several species of flowers that had not yet been identified by botanists. She detailed those & many other species in her book, which with its 550 illustrations, is considered the first comprehensive guide on the subject. Her illustrations are exquisite in their delicate detail & colours, the forms & stems perfectly imperfect in their curves. The watercolour hues add to the general feeling of understated loveliness of each plant.
