Description
UKIYO-E JAPANESE WOODBLOCK ART PRINT Minowa, Kanasugi, Mikawashima ( ) by Utagawa Hiroshige, 1857. From the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, no. 102 , part 4: Winter Two red-crowned cranes in a marsh, in a scene looking from Minowa & Kanasugi toward Mikawashima (three different villages northwest of the Yoshiwara pleasure quarters). Every year in winter months, when cranes migrated to Japan, the shogun's Crane Hunt was taking place here, in Mikawashima. Cranes are known as symbols of luck, longevity, & fidelity & this made cranes an auspicious ceremonial gift. Reproduced from an archive image, respectfully & lovingly restored & enhanced digitally, to remove the non-artistic blemishes & colour fading. A3 print, 297mm x 420mm. (Interior images are shown for styling & illustrative purposes only, not to be used as a precise scale guide. There will be no watermarks on the actual print.)
