Description
This is a pewter quart mug made by George Bowman Acton [1] at Kingston upon Thames in about 1860s. Edward Hopwood (E H) was the first owner of Abercorn Arms Teddington (Opened in 1868) & probably acquired this mug in the late 1860s. According to census, his family all live above the pub in 1871 & registered as Wine & Beer Merchant. Youngs & Co bought the pub in 1887. The mug bears the Pre-1879 Middlesex mark with 2 F [2] ( 2 - Clerkenwell division, F for inspector David Faulkner) & "Abercorn Arms Teddington" engraved at the base. It also has another GR 31 mark for George V (31 - Middlesex after 1879). It is safe to say that the mug could have a very long service life. Very Good Condition, some sign of use & light dents but in remarkable status for a mug used in a pub for over 40 years.
