Etsy - TataYuskVintage Vintage French Ceramic Bowl W/Fat Lava Glaze. Authentic Vallauris Marked Dish. Collectible Mid -Century Handmade & Handpainted Art Pottery
Description
This fabulous mid-century ceramic dish was made in Vallauris, Southern France in the 60s & featuring a fabulous 'ecume de mer' (sea foam) glaze that is reminiscent of the Fat Lava style volcanic glaze. The shape of the bowl is rather unusual & the decoration is vivid- an orange & yellow flower in the middle of the inner side with turquoise leaves on the light white- beige covered with irregular brown spots background. Due to the special technique of under glaze painting the bowl remains bright. The craftwork is marked, you can see captions in French VALLAURIS & FAIT MAIN (handmade) - (see the photos & video). Vallauris Golfe-Juan - city of 100 potters - is a tourist town on the French Riviera between Antibes & Cannes. Its name (Valauria in Provencal) means the golden valley. VALLAURIS became fashionable in the years 1950-60 & ceramics developed as an art form. The trend towards ceramics as art was prompted by the Massier brothers Clment & Delphin & cousin Jrme in the late 1800s. Since that time the craft continues but overall with decorative ceramics & tableware. It's a really unique ceramic item which has energy of the sun & the sea. The bowl is in a good vintage condition, but there are 2 small chips of the glaze on the edge of the bowl ( see the photos & video). They just give its vintage charm to the craftwork & not much visible because of the same color of the clay & the brown spots on the surface. Measurements: Diameter 24,5 cm (9.6), Height- 7 cm (2.6), diameter of the base- 16 cm (5). Weight- 817 grams.
