This is an antique Victorian (pre-1898) pair - a creamer & a sugar bowl with lid. Both items are in a great antique condition, no silver loss, very clean, no visible defects at all. A rare & unique estate find. The stamp says: Middletown Connecticut USA, MidSilCraft EP NS. Middletown was a trade mark of Wilcox Silver first, & then a part of International Silver Co, but that happened on the turn of the century. This particular mark was used in the end of the 19-th century. EP means electroplated & NS stands for nickel silver, which is a hard white alloy known as German silver or Melchior & very popular in the period silverware & flatware. in metallurgy, melchior is an alloy of copper, mainly with nickel. Its name originates from Italian: melchior, which in turn is distorted French: maillechort, honoring the French inventors of the alloy, Maillot & Chorier. The term melchior sometimes refers not only to the copper-nickel alloys, but also alloys of copper with nickel & zinc (nickel silver). The set looks exactly as it did more than a hundred years ago, clean, & not a bit corroded. The set was designed in a very elegant classic style. It could be easily shined up to a mirror state.
