Crinoids are marine animals belonging to the class Crinoidea, an ancient fossil group that first appeared in the seas approx 300 million years before dinosaurs. They flourished in the Palaeozoic & Mesozoic eras & even survive to the present day. These detailed remains were collected by hand along the UK's Jurassic Coast where they lay hidden & perfectly presented, for millions of years. Sometimes referred to as 'sea lilies, Crinoids are reminiscent of flowers & in old England, the columns forming the stem were referred to as 'fairy money'.
