This very rare & unusual aluminium candle holder tin was produced by NC Joseph Ltd in Stratford-on-Avon for the CWS Irlam Soap & Candle Works in Manchester, England - probably as an advertising or promotional piece. It's arts & crafts in style, designed to resemble hammered pewter, & most likely dates from the 1920s (the V&A museum website has other similar designs, but not a candle holder). The base is stamped with the patent number 247637, but all the NC Joseph Ltd items I've found online seem to have the same patent number, so I suspect the patent is for the aluminium production process, rather than the item. This candle holder tin is in a good usable condition with a few surface blemishes & a few dinks to its base. It can hold candles up to 4.5cm (1.3/4") in diameter.
