This antique or vintage brass inkwell & pen stand is marked GES. GESCH. which is an abbreviation for Gesetzlich Geschutzt - the German equivalent of a patent or registered design. It most likely dates from around the early 20th century. Originally, I imagine it would have had some sort of liner in the inkwell part, which doubles up well as a candle holder. It's in a good usable condition. It's quite tarnished & would probably polish up well, if you prefer your brass more golden.
