Etsy - TwentiethCenturyFrox 1920's Japanese Kiku - "Chrysanthemum" Silk Dressing Robe
Description
1920's Japanese raw silk dressing robe with a pretty floral border print echoed on the shoulders & back. Unusually the silk facing which is often in a smaller print pattern is plain, but does have 3 Japanese pictograms printed on it. I only know that the top one, Kiku or Chrysanthemum. The Chrysanthemum has particular significance in Japan as it not only symbolizes autumn but also the nation itself. The Japanese monarchy is referred to as the Chrysanthemum throne & the imperial crest is a stylized mum blossom. It's generally in great condition. Japanese raw silks are very fine, tissue thin & semi sheer. There is some very slight straining to the fabric across the back, but as raw silk is prized for being so fine but uneven in its weave, showing natural variations & knubbles of the thread, it is hardly noticeable & doesn't in any way detract from beauty of the garment. I provide free post & packing for UK deliveries. I will post outside of the UK , but please contact me for shipping costs. 1920's Japanese Kiku - "Chrysanthemum" Silk Dressing Robe
