Etsy - VelvetTambourine Antique/Vintage Harrison Fisher 1920S Framed Small Print Portrait Of Edwardian Lady
Description
Vintage framed small art print of an Edwardian lady, titled - A Teatime Reverie, by American artist Harrison Fisher (1877-1934). A rare authentic find & highly collectible 100 year art print. Beautiful portrait of an American woman, with sultry, heavy lidded eyes, holding a pink tea cup & saucer in her hands. The print shows Harrison Fisher's undated signature. The original would have been a water colour. Who was Harrison Fisher? Fisher trained under his father Felix, an artist. Fisher's sketches were published in 'Judge', an American satirical magazine, the San Francisco Examiner & Puck Magazine. As an illustrator & cartoonist, Fisher became popular & created lithographs, WWI posters & water colour portraits of Edwardian ladies with bright sultry eyes, rosy cheeks & bare shoulders which was said to have set the standard for European American beauties. Fisher enjoyed celebrity status in his time. What my research revealed! This Harrison Fisher's print is entitled 'A Tea-time Reverie', (see bottom of the print). To the bottom left are the words: 'Copyright 1920, International Magazine Co. (Cosmopolitan). Printed by Cosmopolitan Print Department, this is a colour poster print published by The Cosmopolitan, an American periodical which advertised the sale of the print in an advertisement (No.185), in its April 1920 edition (Vol. LXVIII, No.4). The description states: 'The Latest Harrison Fisher Girl'. in color. 11x14. 25 cents.' Two print runs were issued by the journal & prints of different runs would have been in different sizes. Further authentication comes from The Library of Congress (US) Catalogue of Copyright Entries (Part 4, Vol.15, page 116) which records The Cosmopolitan's copyright registration. For the year 1920 under 'Works of Art' in the catalogue, the entry reads: Cosmopolitan Print dept., New York Tea time reverie (c) April 6, 1920 2C. April 15, 1920. K143695. The Harrison Fisher print here is in an inexpensive plastic lightweight black frame (60's frame I believe) with a clear glass front. The print is held down by small nails on a backing board (some nails are sticking out) & the board is covered & sealed in by brown paper. Two hooks on the back of the frame is strung with a double string for hanging. The plastic frame has some corner wear/few scratches & it is slighlty loose, measuring 35 x 27cm (14x11 inches approx.) The print has not been removed from the frame for closer examination. Its external dimensions are approx. 9 x 13 (inches) without removing it from the frame. The print (through the frame) appears to be in good vintage condition, un-creased, with a light tonal (tanned) change to the border. No obvious marks or tears. A rare vintage 1920's print of a lovely American beauty! The photographs are also part of the description. I'd be happy to answer any questions about this piece.
