Beautiful purple grape & yellow / green vine leaf Majolica design vintage plate. Beautiful detail. This is the price for one but please be aware that there are 4 different fruit plates in this set available separately . The underside has been glazed & shows the french Sarreguemines manufacturer's mark & stamp so very authentic. Majolica, also spelt Maiolica - is the beautiful ware prepared by tin-glazing earthenware & firing it a second time. After the first firing & application of a fast drying liquid glaze , the piece is hand painted. A final firing at 1690o Fahrenheit will make the glaze interact with the metal oxides used by the painter to create the deep & brilliant translucent colours commonly seen . Diameter 19 cm x 3 cm deep. Excellent vintage condition but note this plate does show signs of its age on the undersurface rim, a very old small chip 1 cm long .
