Large Artisanally Made French Antique 'Confiserie' Pan in Solid Copper 19th cent. We found this exceptionally large antique copper vessel last year at a French brocante. It is a remarkably large & beautiful example of antique artisanally made French copperware. I am finally getting around to listing it in the shop because I have toyed with keeping it...I just love it, but time to let it go... This 'basin' or 'confisierie' has been artisanally wrought with an inset bottom joined in the traditional way...note the joining ring near the bottom of the bassin in the photos. There is a heavy turned lip & likely this piece had a ring for hanging it but that has disappeared. This piece has been marked by its maker with several letters & two tiny stars but we have not been able to identify the maker. Vessels of this type with the distinctive rounded bottom were made by local generally anonymous artisans all over France in the 19th century (1800s) & into the 1900s to be used by candy makers for boiling sweets. This old vessel is in good antique condition with lots of the expected scratches & dents & touches of verdigris but nothing at all serious. We found this vessel with the polish that you see. We have left it as we found it. I think this old copper vessel would be fabulous displayed in a traditional French kitchen. This item is heavy...it weighs 2.8 kilos or a little over 6 pounds of solid copper.
