Yerba mate is a traditional Argentinian drink, a herb that is prepared in gourds usually made from dried pumpkin. Latvia has too cold environment to grow this particular pumpkin successfully, so I make them out of clay! This gourd is also used to prepare a Brazilian type of mate chimarrao. Made in the Latvian countryside, in a place called Vidusmei, hand-built from iron-rich stoneware, glazed with food-safe homemade from local materials natural olive rust glaze, high-fired in an electric kiln & is one of a kind.
