Description
This handmade, wheel-thrown ceramic bowl is made from many different colored porcelains. The colorful design in the clay was made using the different colored porcelains which I make by hand. This is done by mixing powdered stains with porcelain, each color represents one color stain with at least one pound of porcelain kneaded together until it is one uniform color & consistency. Then different colors of clay are picked & wedged together & then quickly thrown on the wheel. I later trimmed the bowl to reveal the colorful layering & to shape the defined foot. Then it was bisque fired & clear glaze was applied to inside & outside & final firing of bowl at 2200 degrees. Each color was made separately, put aside, & later colors were picked to be wedged & thrown together, no colored glazed were applied later, all the colors are just the colored porcelains with a clear glaze applied before final firing. It is very labor intensive, but the results are wonderful.
