Sustainable UltraThin Collection Digital fabrication is an exciting field, but it usually costs a lot of material to finish one project. After working in labs where tons of non-recyclable materials were used & discarded, I became interested in developing alternative design approaches that are more sustainable. in this on-going project I have been designing geometric forms that can be fabricated with a minimum amount of material. The products in this collection feature an ultra-thin wall of only 0.2 mm. The structural stability is achieved through specially designed geometric patterns instead of adding extra material. These geometric patterns increase the strength of the wall & at the same time add an aesthetic expression. The objects are also designed to have a weight gradient, being heaviest at the bottom while lightest at the top. This allows them to be both stable & lightweight. All items in this collection are printed using PLA, a biodegradable material, & no supporting materials were used during the fabrication process (therefore no material is wasted). Handle with care: - The shapes of the vases are pretty stable by themselves, but due the small thickness, they may deform when being squeezed or pressed with large force. As long as they are handled with care, they should last for a long time. - They work best with artificial or dried flowers. Although they were able to hold water during my test, due to the nature of this bioplastic, waterproofing isn't guaranteed.
