As they continue to be encroached upon by humans & our man-made infrastructures, their habitats have become lost, degraded & fragmented. This has also resulted in more human-elephant conflict & the genetic threats that come with having small populations. Though a greater threat for African elephants, Asian elephants are still poached for the illegal ivory trade (and for the market of other elephant parts, like skin, meat & tail hair). Lots of resources are invested in working with communities to reduce human-elephant conflict & protecting their remaining habitat. Projects are also underway to reconnect fragmented areas of habitat with wildlife corridors - one of the most effective methods for helping isolated populations to mix & so reducing the occurrence of problems caused by a loss of genetic diversity. Plant a tree For every wildlife art print sold, a tree will be planted in the Albertine Rift forests of Uganda as part of a wildlife habitat restoration project in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute.
