Etsy - WolfhoundByDesign Trench Art Brass Vases
Description
I like to learn about the items I have in my store, but from the markings on the base of these 2 trench art vases, all I can work out is that they were made at the Royal Laboratories in Woolwich London in 1919. These 2 are smaller than the ones I have previously had as each on has a diameter of 4.5 cm at the base & are 18.7 cm tall. They both appear to have one handle missing as there is an old solder mark that is opposite the remaining handle. They narrow towards the top & have a crimped rim. I have given them a clean, but some dark spots still remain. Whilst WWI ended in 1918, fighting continued in countries that were once part of the Russian Empire. in November 1918, Russia invaded Estonia once the German army withdrew. The Estonians fought back with the help of Latvia & Britain amongst others. Perhaps these shells were made for that conflict, who knows?
