This is a great item to add to your primitive home. This 7 courting candle is made of black iron. To work it you move the wood peg up the spiral, this then lowers & raises the candle. Very unique! This is the Story of the Courting Candle: in the old days, a suitor would come by to court a man's daughter. If the father thought the young man looked respectable & would make a possible husband for his daughter, he would set the candle level high so the candle would burn longer. If he did not like the suitor, he would set the level low so the candle would burn out quickly! When the candle burned out the couple would know the date was over.
