This automatic closure opens due to the pressure generated when pouring out your drink and then closes again once the pressure eases so that no insects can get into the carafe. The closure can easily be removed and the carafe can be cleaned in the dishwasher. The carafe is hand-blown and handmade. The double-walled feature makes it seem as if your drink is floating inside the glass. The insulating effect keeps the glass warm on the outside, but not enough to burn your fingers.
