Description
Hornbeam has long been a popular choice for hedging, growing well in most gardens and forming a neat and easy to clip dense hedge. Perfect for any garden boundary, you can prune this variety to whatever height you need it and then easily keep neatly clipped to shape when established. Hornbeam is ornamental with vivid green foliage during spring and summer, before developing beautiful golden tones in autumn. It’s also a great choice for attracting wildlife, providing nesting and roosting space for wild birds. Supplied as 50 - 80 cm bareroots. Planting distance: 45cm (18") or 3 plants per metre for a single line hedge. Prior to planting Hornbeam, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and water well to settle the soil. Water young plants during particularly dry periods until fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the hedge. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer.
