Plant bareroot daylilies at the earliest opportunity following delivery in moist, well-drained, fertile soil, and situated in full sun. Growing Hemerocallis plants in dry soils or shaded conditions may reduce the number of flowers produced. For the best performance keep day lily plants well-watered whilst they are in flower and deadhead faded daylily flowers regularly. In autumn, remove any old, ragged foliage and apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost around the base of daylily plants.
