Description
This vigorous Japanese Honeysuckle ‘Hall’s Prolific’ produces an abundance of honey-scented blooms throughout summer, constantly buzzing with pollinating insects. Tubular flowers emerge pure white, darkening to a buttery yellow and followed by glossy, black berries. The twining stems are covered with dark green foliage, which remains semi-evergreen in milder areas. This twining Lonicera will thrive in most aspects, but flourishes in dappled shade. A particularly useful climber, Honeysuckle ‘Hall’s Prolific’ is perfect for growing through deciduous hedges and trees, and will provide a showy summer display and a little winter colour. When planting Honeysuckle ‘Hall’s Prolific’ choose a position in sun or semi-shade and grow against a suitable, sturdy support such as trellis or strong wires attached to walls and pergolas, in fertile, moist, free-draining soil. Improve poor soils by adding in plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. If using patio containers to grow Honeysuckle ‘Hall’s Prolific’, use a soil based compost. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. Check young shoot tips regularly as honeysuckle plants are susceptible to aphid damage, particularly when grown in full sun. Prune Honeysuckle ‘Belgica’ immediately after flowering, first removing the oldest stems, then reducing the remaining stems to restrict their vigorous growth to the available space. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Caution: harmful if eaten.
