Description
Potted Shady Laurel Hedging Plants are evergreen hedge plants that will give you year-round privacy. They are great for reducing noise with large dense rich shiny green coloured leaves. This species is also known as Scandinavian Laurel, where it was first grown so is very Hardy and also tolerates full shade. These plants are also quite happy in full sun and anything in-between so is a really versatile plant for all parts of a garden. Laurels are evergreen giving you year-round privacy and are great for reducing noise with large dense rich shiny green coloured leaves. If you don’t prune them before the flowers appear in early Spring they form lovely delicate creamy white flowers and black berries in the Autumn. Laurels will grow up to 60cm per year so will quickly make a tall hedge – they can grow up to 10m tall but are happy being trimmed from 1m upwards – we recommend you trim once a year in the Autumn to keep the foliage dense, or in early Spring if you want to avoid the flowers and berries. Laurels will grow in full sun to full shade. Laurel likes most soil types although we don’t recommend for coastal areas as they don’t like salt in the air. We recommend Green Privet as a better option for these areas. We recommend 5 plants per metre in a double zig-zag row for a thick hedge, but you can get away with 3-4 per metre in a staggered row if you don’t mind waiting an extra year or two to form a thick hedge. Keep them well watered – especially in the Spring and Summer in the first year of planting.
