Willow Hedging Plants make a lovely addition to a hedge or a stand-alone tree in its own right. It is fast growing with beautiful slender leaves that are white on the underside turning orange in Autumn. Willow grows well in all soil types but thrives in damp soils making it excellent for flood prevention or to dry out damp or boggy parts of a field or hedgerow. It is very wildlife friendly providing habitat for insects and birds, and is also a horse friendly plant. Willow is very fast growing and produces delightful orange coloured stems which give excellent interest in a Winter garden. It can be used to make living willow sculptures or structures. Willow grows well in all soil types but thrives in damp soils making it excellent for flood prevention or to dry out damp or boggy parts of a field or hedgerow. It is very wildlife friendly providing habitat for insects and birds, and is also a horse friendly plant. We recommend 5 plants per metre in a double zig-zag row for a thick hedge, but you can get away with 3-4 per metre in a staggered row if you don’t mind waiting an extra year or two to form a thick hedge. Keep them well watered – especially in the Spring and Summer in the first year of planting.
