Description
The "Tornado" was created from a composite project between Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom to produce a high-performance fighter aircraft with multiple wheels. However, the development of a modern state-of-the-art aircraft was capable of performing penetrating strike missions at a low height. This need was covered by the development of a two-engine fighter aircraft with a variable swing wing. The Tornado size 1 (Ground Attack/Reconnaissance) was the first version adopted by the Royal Air Force in the early 80s. In 1996, the Tornado was based on the size 4 standard, which is characterised by improved operability, new avionics systems for navigation and the introduction of new "on-board" technologies. These systems enable effective identification and tracking of goals and weapon management of the new generation of weapons such as Paveway IV bombs and Storm Shadow cruise rockets.
