The hunter-wagons Sd.Kfz. 138 Marder III was developed for the German army on the basis of the now obsolete, but available, light tank Panzer 38(t) of Czechoslovak production. The modification involved the adoption, in an open structure protected by an inclined plate shield, of the effective 75 mm anti-tank cannon. PaK 40 The Marder III Ausf. H had the engine installed in the rear of the vehicle and the weapon system in the middle position so as to ensure greater protection to the minions. With this configuration, the Wehrmacht could have an easy-to-produce tank fighter with a high firepower capable of countering the main tanks of the time. It entered production in 1942 for the needs of the Eastern Operational Theatre and was employed until the end of the war on all fronts.
