Hands-On Learning; The KNEX Education Exploring Machines set is designed to expand upon the students knowledge of simple machines concepts. Students investigate, explore and experiment with the KNEX simple machine models as they analyse, synthesize, and evaluate information. This 1432 knex piece set builds 30 different models to enable students to investigate a broad variety of mechanisms in more complex models. Four of each type of model can be built simultaneously. This set allows up to 8-12 students to work together and comes with student instruction booklet, teacher guide and lesson plans. The comprehensive 70 page teachers guide includes student inquiry sheets and worksheets for the models highlighted. Student worksheets ask questions about the machine being investigated and present challenges that can be used to help students think more deeply about the concepts involved. Key concepts covered include levers and pulleys, motion and forces, energy transfer, effort and resistance forces, classes of levers and mechanical advantage. Models include saw mill, piano, conveyor belt, block and tackle, garage door, crane, spiral staircase, cahinsaw, tow truck, balance and many more; Stem education focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts taught through problem-solving, discovery, exploratory learning and critical thinking. Stem education requires students to be active participants in the learning. Knex models offer hands-on learning opportunities that encourage scientific inquiry, investigation and experimentation.
