In this listing we are very pleased to offer a stunning very large table lamp by Dijkstra Lampen of the Netherlands in excellent condition. This lamp dates from the early 1980s & has a very creative design with a play on black & white that fits with they style that was prevailing in the arts & design in that period. It is made of a round metal base with attached metal arched connection (spine) between base & shade. The half-sphere shaped shade is made of milk white acrylic glass also known as Plexiglas/Perspex/Lucite. The black lamp cord runs tightly over the spine of the lamp which creates a contrast with the all white of the lamp. The rim of the base & rim of the shade have been finished with a removable round black rubber strip which ties in with the black of the lamp cord. This is a very attractive lamp which shows great design in combination with the serious size. The lamp is marked with the Dijkstra sticker label on the inside of the shade. The lamp is still fitted with the original cord of 212 centimeters / 83.46 inches, inline switch & white colored European 2-pin plug. They white of the plug is - in line with the design of the lamp - a nice contrast with the black of the lamp cord but we are not entirely sure if it was intended that way. This lamp takes 1 E27 bulb with screw fitting. About Dijkstra Lampen Founded in 1922 by Fokke Dijkstra in Haarlem, Dijkstra Lampen is one of the oldest Dutch lamp factories in the Netherlands & still makes high-quality lighting fixtures always with an architectural element. in the 1970s & 1980s Dijkstra was well known for employing a lot of acrylic & other new plastic composites in its lamp designs, especially for it spheres & often in combination with aluminium. Like Herda Verlichting the company was also not shy from taking inspiration from other brands & designers. More than any other Dutch lighting company Dijkstra took over the tradition from Philips (and its main designer Louis Kalff) of combining glass & metal - as can be seen in the Dijkstra eclips lamp that we also have for sale (if not sold) - but it also closely followed some of Raak Amsterdam's famous lamps, like the Raak best-seller Globe: by Frank Ligtelijn that Dijkstra copied with acrylic replacing the glass in the Raak original. Dijkstra Lampen was sold to Hala Zeist in 2011 (founded in 1909) which then briefly was renamed Hala Dijkstra, but in 2013, the grandson of founder Fokke Dijkstra bought back the brand name & the company now makes lighting fixtures to measure. Measurements: Height: 55 cm / 21.65 inches Diameter of the shade at the bottom rim: 31 cm / 12.20 inches Diameter of the base: 25 cm / 9.84 inches Weight: 2132 grams. Condition: Very good to excellent. The lamp is in fully original condition. The only part we are not sure of is the white plug but it is certainly fitting. The acryllic shade is in good condition. It has light scratches & an incidental rubbing line from normal use but no colored stains, no chips off, no
