Antique John Grinsell Birmingham Hallmark Cut Glass Silver Rimmed Fruit /Salad Bowl Edwardian 1906 9.25 Absolutely beautiful quality Antique Edwardian Cut Glass Fruit /Salad bowl with Solid Silver Rim with good Hallmark for Birmingham Assay in 1906 with the makers mark JG&S for John Grinsell & Sons (for more about this longstanding Victorian company & interesting British maker of fine cut glass & silver items see below) - this is a beautifully made & weighty piece with a lovely repeat design around the outside girth & star cut base with a thick silver rim of 5/8th - there is only light tarnish to the silver & fine scratches to the base of the glass consistent with normal age & use - please check photos which form part of the description & do help -an absolute beauty to grace any table & a lovely collectible item- don't miss it! John Grinsell - A business established in Birmingham before 1864 as Grinsell & Bourne. When the partnership was dissolved (1871), John Grinsell started a new business with his sons (Thomas Bywater Grinsell, James Erazmus Grinsell, Lorenzo Grinsell & Joseph Charles Grinsell) as John Grinsell & Sons. The firm was active at Victoria Works, 57 Tower Street, St. George's, Birmingham. Show rooms were opened at 13 Charterhouse Street, Holborn Circus, London & 73 West Nile Street, Glasgow. in 1905c. the firm was converted to John Grinsell & Sons Ltd. Later the firm was purchased by Barker Ellis & Co Ltd. The firm was specialized in the manufacture of silver-mounted glass, stoneware & ceramic items.
