This splendid, peppermint-flavoured Giant Curly Candy Cane is perfect for decorating the Christmas tree, popping into stockings, or keeping someone quiet for hours. Mr Stanley lived in North Yorkshire in the early 1800s. This sweet-toothed gentleman travelled the world discovering exotic treats and mindboggling new flavours, such as Turkish Delight from Constantinople and liquorice from Italy. He brought these delights back home and reproduced them for his friends and family, alongside British classics like fudge, honeycomb, toffee, coconut ice and lemonade fizzies. Luckily for us, his nearest and dearest convinced him to go into business in 1843, and Mr Stanley's has been producing the nation's favourite sweets the old-fashioned way ever since. Even to this day much of his confectionery is made in copper pots on open gas burners, creating the unmistakable flavour of a bygone era that will never go out of fashion.
