The Shyrdak Tray takes inspiration from rug patterns of the same name; traditionally made by women in central Asia the pattern uses highly contrasting colours to create a positive/negative visual of symbolic motifs. This design of this wooden tray is handcarved into its charcoal-painted facade for a symmetrical pattern of relief that reveals the colour of the wood beneath.
