Rhododendron Amoena 2 Litre Potted Plant x 1
Description
This delightful Japanese Azalea makes a lovely feature in the border or when grown in a decorative container or pot on the patio. Rhododendron 'Amoena' produces masses of brash, magenta-pink blooms that almost cover the plant throughout April and May. With a compact spreading habit, this neat variety makes an excellent, low maintenance shrub for year round structure and colour in the garden. Grow in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf varieties can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers or pots, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. They are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply. Water regularly throughout the growing season, where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed in spring with a slow release fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds. Border grown plants will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their shallow roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound the mulch too close to the stem as this may cause it to rot. If necessary, lightly prune in June to remove damaged shoots and restrict size. Position: Sun or Partial Shade, Height: Up to 1.2m. Spread: Up to 1.2m.
