Tasting Notes Turn your wine into a symphony. Riedel launched the Amadeo Wine Decanter in 2006 to celebrate the company's 250th anniversary. It was named after a fellow Austrian genius who was born in the same year as Riedel, the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Now it has been reimagined with a bold new colourway inspired by a moonlit night. This stunning piece really pops when filled with red wine. Amadeo has quickly become one of Riedel's bestselling decanters. Its elegant swan-like shape is both functional and beautiful, and it can be used on both young and mature wines to remove sediment and smooth and round the feel through gentle oxidation. Hand blown into the shape of lyre (a musical instrument played in ancient Greece), the decanter includes a wide mouth into which wine can be poured, and a slender mouth from which the decanted wine can be poured into the glass. Designed for a single bottle of wine, although a magnum will fit, Amadeo Moonlight makes a stunning centrepiece to any table. Riedel's Performance glassware is described as “the new ultimate loudspeaker for fine wine”. So, when you've got wine that's worth making some noise about, turn up the volume with the Performance range. It was developed using the research from three generation of the Riedel family to improve the organoleptic (sensory) wine experience. Each item features a fine, laser-cut rim and a unique optical effect that not only creates a pleasing visual, but also increases the inner surface, allowing the wine to open up and fully show its subtle aromatics and nuances. The Riedel family can trace their trade in luxury glassware back to Johann Cristoph, born in 1673. Now in the hands of the 11th generation, Maximilian Josef Riedel, this multi-award-winning, family-run business has become as entwined with the world of fine wine as the vines themselves. Combining science, the experience of some of the world's finest palates and a pinch of magic, they design their glorious glasses to enhance the bouquet, texture, flavour, finish and pleasure delivered by specific grape varieties. Anyone lucky enough to attend one of their wine glass tasting events will be converted for life. The adage of having 'the right tool for the right job' has never been more fitting than when enjoying wine from a Riedel.
