Description
Inspired by designer Kit Kemp’s whimsical illustrative story of The Sailor’s Farewell, this large dinner plate, crafted in fine white bone china features the central character of the story. She is the loved-one, standing on a rock in a yellow dress, waving goodbye to her sailor with a red scarf flying in the wind. Inspired by a drawing, Kit originally created the design for a fabric and the pale blue border echoes this, skilfully embellished with a deeper blue and a hand-applied 22 carat gold trim. The plate is backstamped for authenticity and beautifully presented in a Wedgwood signature blue gift box. This is the second collection from Wedgwood and Kit Kemp who, as a renowned designer, enjoys seeing her love of simple, lyrical folk art realized in fine tableware so much so that the Sailor’s Farewell is now used in two of the ten boutique hotels she co-owns in New York and London.
