The Marathon has been given a modern tread design in order to conquer every challenge from urban jungle to bike touring. Over 40 years ago Schwalbe set a new standard for puncture protection and durability and thanks to their continuous research and development, the Marathon remains the benchmark for these qualities today. The abbreviation RCB stands for recovered carbon black. It is obtained from used tyres. In the recycling process at Schwalbe's partner Pyrum Innovations, the tyres are mechanically processed (shredded) and then recycled in a thermochemical process known as pyrolysis. The carbon black acts as a filler and reinforcing agent in the rubber compound. It influences the dynamic properties of the tyre (abrasion, rolling resistance, wet grip) and is used for colouring.
