The piece is part of the Pre-Spring 2019 collection, that was heavily influenced by the darkly romantic story of Princess Aida, told operatically by Italian Giuseppe Verdi. The collection also includes inspiration from richly colourful paintings by Francisco Goya, who was renowned for interpreting ancient Egyptian iconography. The serpent is highly prevalent in historical Egyptian drawings and cultures, usually displayed on the hedjet of pharaohs. The bold, vibrant snake print that adorns the ‘Will’ dress triumphantly merges the Princess Aida theme with fun and free-spirited design. A square neckline complements the unusually striking voluminous cuffed sleeves, which are juxtaposed with the slim fit of the body of the dress. Falling at the thigh, the mini-length creates a feminine, summery silhouette.
