Elegant, antique bread fork - a full 21cm long in an era of incredible pomp & ceremony, the industrious spirit of Victorian England could even be seen at the dinner table. Victorian place setting was famously elaborate & could utilise up to 24 pieces of cutlery in a single meal! Bread was a staple part of each meal but would be served from a basket, with a special fork. Bread forks were used to show good table manners - refined etiquette confirmed you were a gentleman or lady & had been brought up right to never touch the bread. This bread fork is a superb example of late Victorian silverplate work - floral etching on both sides of the trident, twisted stem & embossed ball caps on either end of the antler handle. A few light marks & golden areas of plate loss, but overall still in very good condition for its age..a lovely & collectible antique fork, for use or display.
