Description
Swathes or clusters of these lavender-blue and white bicolour flowers will brighten your garden every year. Flowering in spring, they provide the perfect contrast for yellow or white daffodils as well as all kinds of other spring flowers. The nodding blooms sit above slender upright stems, adding a little height to your planting scheme and creating a soft, airy effect in borders or patio containers. As a hardy perennial, you can look forward to seeing this reliable and easy-going plant bloom again and again. Grow aquilegias in sun or part shade in any fertile, moist, well drained soil. Plant directly outside in borders or patio containers. Columbines hybridize readily. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead faded aquilegia flowers to prevent them self seeding. Aquilegias dislike disturbance but overcrowded clumps may be lifted and divided in spring when necessary. Caution: Contact with aquilegia sap may irritate the skin. Harmful if eaten.
