Description
The Dicksonia Antartica is native to Australia and therefore hardy to around -5c (23F) and will thrive in the relatively mild wet climate of the UK. You will see long cut fronds unfurl from the crown in a magical display that will add drama to damp shaded areas of your garden. Slow growing, this will add 3cm of trunk every year, taking many years to reach its ultimate height of 4m. Plant Dicksonia antarctica plants in reliably moist, rich fertile, preferably acidic soil. Choose a damp sheltered position in dappled or semi shade. A woodland situation is ideal. Alternatively, plant Tree Ferns in containers of humus rich soil that can be moved outdoors in summer and returned to a greenhouse or conservatory over winter.
