This Smoke Bush is cloaked with burgundy-red leaves from spring onwards, before turning to a jaw-droppingly bright vermillion in the autumn. During summer, it produces fluffy plumes of flowers which are the part of the shrub which resemble the ‘smoke’ is it named after, providing a soft cloud-like effect. A fantastic, fast-growing shrub to act as a screen or provide contrast among your planting schemes, this unfussy shrub will grow in most conditions and is happy to be pruned to size.Grow the Smoke Bush in a moderately fertile, well drained soil in sun or partial shade, plants are generally unfussy and a low maintenance choice of shrub for the garden.Your Smoke Bush will require little pruning other than to maintain its shape, and to remove any dead, diseased or damaged growth. Alternatively, to produce larger, showier foliage, you can cut back stems during spring to within 2 or 3 buds of the base.
