Description
These fantastic croppers are given the name ‘Sure Thing’ due to their reliability to produce a crop even during a cool and cloudy summer. These plants are compact, and they are parthenocarpic, which means that they do not require any pollination from insects. This makes them the perfect variety to grow in the greenhouse. The speckled, dark green fruits can grow up to 20cm long, and boast a stronger flavour than most other varieties of Courgette. These plants will also have great resistance to powdery mildew up to late summer. How to Grow:. Grow courgettes in moist, rich fertile, well drained soil in a sheltered position in full sun. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted farmyard manure to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Space courgettes at a distance of 90cm (36") apart, and water thoroughly after planting. Cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insectsWater courgettes regularly - do not allow the soil to dry out as this will impair their development. Courgettes appreciate an application of a high potash fertiliser every two weeks during the growing season. Hand pollinating courgettes is not usually required when they are grown outdoors. However, for indoor cultivation the female flowers can be fertilised by pressing a male flower against them. Begin harvesting courgettes from midsummer onwards when they are 10cm (4") long. Regular harvesting will encourage more courgettes to be produced. Culinary note: Courgette flowers are edible and can be eaten cooked or added raw to salads.Product Specifications:.
