Harvest tasty home-grown leeks from your kitchen garden or allotment with this reliable autumn-cropping Leek ‘Mercurian’. A fantastically versatile vegetable with excellent flavour, enjoy them steams or boiled as an accompaniment to a meal, or add them to your favourite pies, stews and soups! This variety is popular for its long, straight and upright white stems which have a lovely tender texture. It also resists forming a bulb at the base as it matures, so you can cut uniform slices. The non-drooping leaves allows for good air circulation which helps to minimise the risk of mould or infection.Leeks should be watered regularly until fully established. Once established, they will only require watering during very dry periods. Hoe between rows of leeks to destroy weeds and bring insect larvae to the surface. Leeks can be harvested from autumn onwards; however they stand well in the ground and can be lifted when required throughout the winter and spring.
