Our wood comes from forests that are maintained following a globally recognised gold-standard of sustainability. Solid Rustic Timber To make these painted farmhouse Thornley Hallway Benches we select top quality, unsorted, kiln-dried pine and tulip wood. The Thornley Benchtop and shelf are made from pine. Each top is first cut to size before being hand-sanded in our signature rustic style and then hand-waxed. This leaves in lots of natural timber characteristics and features. Mother Nature's own stamp of approval. In this style you can expect to find splits, cracks, knots, shakes, waney edges, bows and twists, along with sanding marks in keeping with the rustic style. These are the qualities that set our furniture apart from the rest. And due to the nature of solid wood every table will be different. Truly unique. One of a kind. The wood we use for the painted sections of the Thornley collection is tulip wood. We chose to work with this timber because it's strong and naturally light in colour, making it a good base for us to hand-paint.
