Description
Thompson & Morgan Weigela florida 'Polka', a spreading deciduous shrub that looks glorious in summer with its arching branches and soft pink trumpet shaped blooms. The foliage is an unusual dark blue-green colour and forms a dense cloak of leaves that creates an excellent background for summer flowering perennials when grown in mixed borders. The nectar rich flowers of Weigela florida 'Polka' are gently scented and attract pollinating insects. Height: 120cm (48"). Spread: 150cm (59"). Grow Weigela in any well drained soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil. Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
